I worked at a place once, they lied off the bat, offered me £12\hour on the phone then on the interview they said for the first 3 months I'll be on a lower salary (£9/hour) until they can confirm i know what i said i do. One month in was running the print machine on my own. For the next year and a half they kept delaying it, "wait until next month, wait until the end of the year, wait until the end of the busy season" etc. I legit thought i was being ripped off, (which i actually was) but when i decided to leave coworkers became open about their salaries, i was shocked that there were people there for 10+ years still on minimum wage (£8). Then I shut up and left the place within a month

You get what you ask for. The employer must be thinking that you are happy with what you get, so why overspend on someone that is already satisfied. Also, the opportunities are always found outside of comfort zone. They are unlikely to come your way if you are too comfortable with your current state of employment and life. Trust me on this.

I'm 24. I work 6/7 days a week, from 8am-5pm or sometimes from 8am-10pm depending on whats going on. I earn less than $800 a month and probably live in one of the most expensive towns in the whole country because thats where i'm posted. Another 24 year old that doesn't even have a Marketing degree or experience gets hired and earns $1800 and always talks and shows me his new stuff he bought or is going to buy. Flys around the country, expenses paid for. Works from 9/10am-4/5pm. Chills on weekends. Life just isn't fair.

Newcomers are usually get bigger pay than old employees. That's why in my contract I can't tell or ask other employees of their salary, it is illigal. Because we all have individual wages and responsibilities.

How much experience in previous jobs does the newcomer have? How proficient is he? Does he put effort in his job, or does he just sit on a chair and look at the clock until it's leave time? Does he take courses and certifications in order to improve, even without his boss telling him to do so? How good was he at negotiating his salary? Two people don't have to earn the same salary just because they do the same job. If skills and efficiency didn't pay off, there would be no reason for us to keep improving, we would just stagnate.
